Experience in Chinese culture —— making glue puddings

International Chinese Training Center organizing overseas students to carry out practical activities of language and culture

At 1:30 on the afternoon of March 21, the practical activities of Chinese culture —— Chinese traditional  food(tangyuan)was started. Nearly 50 overseas students and all faculty members from International Chinese Training Center and 16 Chinese undergraduates from College of Economic Management took part in the activity.

Last semester, International Chinese Training Center had held a practical activity of introducing and making dumplings, representative food eaten in festivals in northern China. This time the center specially selected another kind of food enjoyed in traditional Chinese festivals —— tangyuan(stuffed dumplings made of glutinous rice flour served in soup)as the theme, so as to make overseas students gain a thorough understanding of representative Chinese food and its making process. After eating  tangyuan they themselves made, many overseas students said, “Through the activity of making  tangyuan, we not only taste the delicious food, but also try to make it. More importantly, we experience the spirit of ‘beauty in peaceful family and harmony in reunion’ in Chinese culture in the process of making  tangyuan”.
