Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu LIU Quan Met with BUPT Delegation

On September 9, 2017, Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu LIU Quan met with Ms. REN Chunxia, Director of the International Office of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. Mr. WU Yong, secretary of embassy, Ms. YANG Hui, Director of Confucius Institute at the University of the South Pacific (CI-USP), Ms. WANG Xiaoshi, Chinese teacher at CI-USP and Ms. LIANG Cuimei, officer at International Office of BUPT joined the meeting.

On behalf of Professor QIAO Jianyong, president of BUPT, Ms. REN thanked Ambassador LIU for his tremendous support to Confucius Classroom over the years. She introduced CI-USP and Research Center for Pacific Region of BUPT in detail.

Ambassador LIU expressed his satisfaction of the work related to the Confucius Classroom. He encouraged Chinese language teachers to keep learning and improve their professional skills. He also suggested researchers from the Research Center for Pacific Region learn from researchers in Australia, New Zealand and the United States Cultural Center. Ambassador LIU said 2018 is the Year of Chinese Culture in Vanuatu. There will be a series of activities to promote the image of China.

Director REN said BUPT and the Confucius Classroom in Vanuatu will try their best to cooperate with the Chinese Embassy in Vanuatu to do the work.

 

The delegation then visited Emalus Campus of USP. Mr. Ruben Markward, campus manager, welcomed the delegation to the campus. Director REN introduced a variety of scholarships available for USP students from the Chinese government and BUPT as well as different exchange programs for professors and researchers. She also expressed the wish to train IT staff of the campus in BUPT to help them provide better services to students and teachers on Emalus campus. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. Professor Eric Colvin, head of School of Law, and Ms. Elisabeth Leekley, librarian in Emalus Campus joined the meeting.

The delegation also visited China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) South Pacific LTD to express gratitude to the company for their constant help to the Confucius Classroom. Mr. YANG Song and Mr. LIANG Qing, Acting Director of Foreign Aid Division of CCECC, expressed the wish to cooperate with the Classroom in training local workers. He said CCECC is willing to provide further help to the Confucius Classroom at Emalus Campus.

Finally, the delegation held a meeting with Chinese language teachers. Director REN encouraged teachers to work hard and told them that BUPT would always support them whenever they have difficulties.
